The Blessing of the Animals
The Blessing of the Animals tradition stems from the life and teachings of St. Francis of Assisi, who saw all creatures as cherished parts of God’s creation. His teachings, including his composition of the “Canticle of the Creatures,” and numerous stories of his interactions with animals established him as the patron saint of animals and ecology.
This year, UOTA’s Blessing of the Animals will be held in the Courtyard on Saturday, October 3, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Prayer Chaplain Penny Ware, LUT, will lead the blessings. Bring your beloved pet, great or small, to receive a beautiful blessing of health, healing, and life. Treats and water will be provided.
