The ancient Greek aphorism, “Know thyself,” attributed to Socrates, lends itself well to Unity’s 5th Principle, “We must live the truth that we know.”
Deepen your awareness of your Self through a deep dive into the Enneagram system with Rev. Doris Hoskins. This class will be held on Mondays from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., beginning on March 27. It is shared on a Love Offering basis. It will be held in Friendship Hall and via Zoom. (For the Zoom link, contact the church office, unityontheavenue@gmail.com.)
The Enneagram is a system of personality typing that describes the nine different patterns regarding how people interpret the world and manage their emotions. Widely used in spiritual direction, it is used as a way of understanding personality, addiction, relationships, and vocation.
The Enneagram’s purpose is to help us uncover the traps that keep us from living fully and freely as our True Self so that we will use our unique, authentic gifts for the good of others and the world.
Father Richard Rohr’s YouTube lectures will form the basis of each class and will drive class discussion. You may watch the videos on your own or with the class. The class text will be “The Wisdom of the Enneagram: The Complete Guide to Psychological and Spiritual Growth for the Nine Personality Types,” by Don Richard Riso and Russ Hudson.
“Since I learned about the Enneagram back in the ’90s, I have used it as a powerful tool for self-discovery and spiritual transformation used in conjunction with meditation and life in community with others,” says Rev. Doris.
“Please do not take an Enneagram test prior to the class,” she cautions. “Most of us are not self-aware enough to answer the questions accurately.”
