What is a Labyrinth?
Symbolically, the labyrinth represents our journey to a greater awareness of God's presence within all of life's twists and turns. There are times when we feel that we're close to the center (God) and other times we feel we are separate and far away. Each twist and turn brings with it revelation and insights to our inner spiritual journey.
During the last century the labyrinth has reemerged as a tool to calm the mind, relax the body, and refresh the spirit and it helps to clarify and focus your thoughts. The labyrinth, unlike its cousin the maze, is designed to help you find your way. The labyrinth features a single circular path that winds its way to the center and back out again in a series of left and right turns. Walking the labyrinth is an ancient spiritual act. For many people, it acts as a metaphor for their spiritual journey and is a powerful tool for transformation and is a symbol of the healing journey. Walking it is a way of connecting to God, centering oneself and focusing one’s mind in prayer.
